Numeracy Program:

The YFNED Numeracy Project is a multi-year initiative that aims at improving math outcomes for Indigenous students. Launched in 2022, this growing program is funded by Jordan’s Principle until 2027.

Annual assessment data indicates that the Yukon school system consistently underachieves in the delivery of math instruction to First Nations students. The performance gap between non-Indigenous and Indigenous students has remained significantly wide over many years. The Numeracy Team believes this achievement gap can be closed using a strengths-based and culturally-informed approach, supporting both teachers and students across Yukon public schools.

Supports offered:

·       Coaching teachers on culturally-relevant math

·       Tutoring Indigenous students

·       Operating math camps

·       Developing culturally-relevant teaching resources
