First Nation Education Advocates
Our team is made up of First Nation Education Advocates, Elders/Knowledge Holders, Junior Advocates and specialists. We support individual students and their families. The team works with staff and community to promote an Indigenous, wrap-around, holistic approach to education.
Our First Nation Education Advocates:
Work to increase a sense of belonging, self-respect and pride in heritage for Indigenous students.
Provide support, guidance, advocacy, and support the delivery of authentic, culturally inclusive programming in schools and on the land.
Assist and mentor school staff to fully develop and deliver their own education programs that reflect Yukon First Nation culture and language.
Promote positive working relationships between students, families and school staff to improve the academic achievement of Indigenous students.
Connect Indigenous students to the necessary services, supports and specialists, and ensure they receive help, including referrals to the YFNED Mobile Therapeutic Unit.
