YFNED is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization founded in 2020 by Chiefs at CYFN leadership who recognized the need for an organization devoted to achieving unified Yukon First Nations education goals. Directed by the Chiefs Committee on Education, YFNED delivers Jordan’s Principle wraparound supports to all Indigenous kids in the Yukon, advances the rights of Yukon First Nations over the education of their children, while also providing professional and technical support to Yukon First Nations.
Indigenous kids are now fed 2 healthy meals at all schools, students are receiving allied and mental health services across the Yukon, young families have cultural and nutritional support programs, students and educators have access to land-based cultural learning, kids are seeing more of their language and culture in the schools, data is being better analyzed, and important research and partnerships are happening to improve the education system.
YFNED is funded by annual, proposal-based Government of Canada programs.
YFNED mission
